Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 4, 2026
1. Who We Are (Data Controller)
WAK Life (the "Service," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by WAK Technologies LLC, a limited liability company registered in the State of Washington, United States. For the personal information we decide the purposes and means of processing, we act as the data controller. Where you use WAK Life's business features to record information about your own customers, employees, or suppliers, you are the controller of that information and we act as your processor (see Section 6).
Contact: support@waklife.com
2. Scope of This Policy
This policy applies to the WAK Life web application, mobile applications (iOS and Android), and related services, websites, and APIs. It does not apply to third-party services we integrate with (such as app stores, payment processors, or hosting providers), which are governed by their own privacy policies.
3. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information to provide, secure, and improve WAK Life:
- Account & profile information: your name, email address, password (stored only as a salted hash), business/profile name, preferred currency, locale, and settings.
- Personal financial data: budgets, income, expenses, categories, savings goals, notes, and other entries you create.
- Business data: products and inventory, stock categories and budgets, point-of-sale sales and receipts, invoices and invoice lines, revenue and expenses, owner capital and contributions, debts, tax rules and tax estimates, and accounting records (journals, ledgers, opening balances).
- Information about third parties that you enter: details you choose to record about your customers, employees, or suppliers (for example a customer name on an invoice or receipt). See Section 6 for how this is handled.
- Payment & subscription data: your subscription plan, status, renewal dates, and transaction references. Card and bank details are collected and processed directly by our payment providers (see Section 8); we do not store full payment card numbers.
- Usage data: features used, navigation and interaction events, and diagnostic/error and performance logs.
- Device & technical data: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers, app version, and (on mobile) push-notification tokens.
- Authentication & security data: login timestamps, session tokens, and security metadata used to protect your account.
- Communications & optional data: support messages, feedback, and any attachments you send us.
We do not intentionally collect special-category or "sensitive" personal data, and we ask that you not enter it into free-text fields.
4. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and operate the personal and business finance tools you request.
- Authenticate you and secure your account, and sync your data across your devices.
- Generate insights, categorizations, and recommendations, including through our AI assistant (see Section 7).
- Process subscriptions, billing, and related receipts.
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms.
- Provide customer support and respond to your requests.
- Maintain, debug, and improve reliability and performance, including through aggregated or de-identified analytics.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
5. Legal Bases for Processing (EU/UK GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: to deliver the core features you sign up for.
- Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain, and improve the Service and prevent abuse, balanced against your rights.
- Consent: for optional features, certain cookies, and marketing communications, where required. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation: to comply with applicable laws, tax/accounting rules, and lawful requests.
6. Business Users - Data You Enter About Other People
WAK Life's business features let you record information about your own customers, employees, and suppliers. For that information, you are the data controller and we are your processor. You are responsible for having a lawful basis to collect and use it, for providing any required notices to those individuals, and for honoring their rights. We process such data only on your documented instructions (which include your use of the features), to provide and secure the Service, and as required by law. You agree to indemnify us for claims arising from your entry or use of third-party personal data in breach of applicable law, as further described in our Terms of Service.
7. AI-Powered Features ("Len" and Automated Insights)
Some features use automated processing and AI models to categorize entries, summarize your finances, and answer questions about your own data. To generate a response, relevant portions of your business or financial data may be sent to our AI processing provider (Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service) and processed to return a result to you. These features produce informational outputs only and do not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you. AI outputs may be inaccurate or incomplete and are not professional financial, tax, legal, or accounting advice (see our Terms of Service).
8. Payments and Subscriptions
Subscriptions purchased on our website are processed by Stripe. Subscriptions purchased in our mobile apps are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. These providers collect and process your payment details under their own privacy policies and PCI-DSS obligations; we receive only limited information such as your plan, subscription status, and a transaction reference. We do not store your full card number.
9. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information and do not "share" it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We disclose information only as follows:
- Service providers / sub-processors: vendors who host and operate the Service on our behalf, under contract and confidentiality obligations (see Section 10).
- Legal and safety: where required to comply with law, regulation, legal process, or lawful government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of WAK Life, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy.
- With your consent or direction: when you ask us to share your information or enable an optional integration.
- Aggregated / de-identified data: which cannot reasonably identify you.
10. Sub-Processors
We currently rely on the following key sub-processors. This list may change; material changes will be reflected in an updated policy.

11. Cookies and Similar Technologies
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in and secure your session, and limited analytics/performance technologies to understand and improve usage. You can control non-essential cookies through your browser or any in-app controls we provide; disabling essential cookies may break core functionality. We honor recognized opt-out preference signals (such as Global Privacy Control) where required by law.
12. Data Security
We apply administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the risk, including:
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encryption at rest for stored data
- Salted, hashed password storage (bcrypt or an equivalent modern algorithm)
- Role-based access controls and least-privilege administrative access
- Network isolation, monitoring, and logging for suspicious activity
- Reputable cloud infrastructure with restricted, audited access
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your credentials confidential.
13. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward only as required to comply with legal, tax, accounting, or dispute-resolution obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period (typically within 30 days), except where retention is legally required; residual copies may persist in secure backups for a limited period before being overwritten.
14. International Data Transfers
We and our sub-processors may process your information in countries other than your own. Where we transfer personal data internationally, we use appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or equivalent mechanisms, together with encryption and contractual protections.
15. Your Privacy Rights
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:
- Access and receive a copy of your personal data
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete your data
- Export your data in a portable, machine-readable format
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
To exercise these rights, contact support@waklife.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law (generally within 30 days) and may need to verify your identity first. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
WAK Life serves users internationally. If you reside outside the regions named below, you may still have rights under your local data-protection laws, and we will honor those that apply to you.
16. EU/UK Residents
If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (for example, your national Data Protection Authority or the UK Information Commissioner's Office). We encourage you to contact us first so we can address your concern.
17. California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the purposes for collecting it, and the categories of recipients; to request deletion and correction; and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not use sensitive personal information for purposes requiring a right to limit. You may exercise these rights, including via an authorized agent, by contacting support@waklife.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
18. Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019
If you are in Uganda, we process your personal data in accordance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 and its Regulations. You may access, correct, and request deletion of your data, object to processing, and, where you believe your rights have been infringed, complain to the Personal Data Protection Office (PDPO). Contact us at support@waklife.com to exercise your rights.
19. Children's Privacy
WAK Life is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected such data, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact support@waklife.com.
20. Automated Decision-Making
We do not make decisions producing legal or similarly significant effects about you based solely on automated processing. AI-assisted categorizations and insights are informational and remain under your control.
21. Third-Party Links
The Service may link to third-party sites or services we do not control. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices; please review their policies.
22. Data Breach Notification
If we become aware of a personal-data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify affected users and the relevant supervisory authorities without undue delay and within the timeframes required by applicable law.
23. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date and, for material changes, provide additional notice through the app or by email. Your continued use of WAK Life after an update takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
